Website Goals | What do you want your website to do?

When it comes to a business website, something so obvious, yet often overlooked is establishing goals.  The first thing to do when designing or redesigning a business website is to determine what you want your website to do – a.k.a. define clear website goals.

Defining clear goals for your website will help you to build an online presence for your business.  Start with the following questions:

•    What do you want your website to achieve?
•    Who is your target audience?
•    What is the purpose of your website?  Will it provide information, advertise, sell your products, or entertain?

If you want your website to sell products, focus on creating an online store that is easy to shop, and that makes the buying experience enjoyable for visitors.  Structure your website navigation so that visitors can find what they are looking for, and purchase it with out complication.

Or maybe you want your website to make your phone ring, if this is the case you will want to give your visitors enough information about your business, your services, and why your service is just right for them.  You’ll want to provide useful, practical information about your service, develop your image, and establish trust to convert your visitors into loyal customers.  You also want to invite your visitors to contact you, via phone or by filling out a brief contact form. 

Regardless of the primary purpose of your website, it’s important to consider the needs of your visitors /audience when designing your website.  The best way to make your website do what you want it to do, is to define goals for your website at the beginning of your website design project, and to give your visitors what they want.
