What You Need to Do to SEO Your Website
In order to SEO your Website you need to first look at your current website and page content to determine your “fit factor.” If your website is not a "good fit" for on-page SEO enhancements, you’ll need to make some changes otherwise it is going to be difficult, and somewhat pointless to take on an SEO strategy.
What a Website Needs for SEO
The following list of three website areas may seem individually unimportant, but when added together they become important in having an effectively search engine optimized web site.
1. Domain Name – Ideally, you want a domain name that describes your business. Additionally, your domain name should be memorable, easy to spell, and preferably a .com. Searchers tend to type .com first when looking for a name of a specific web site. If your domain name ends with .biz or .net, you will likely send potential customers to your competitions’ websites.
2. Home Page Content - How resourceful is your website home page.
The home page of your website is "prime real estate" as a large percent of search traffic enters your website on your home page, thus it should have the most important information about your business. According to research calculations, you've got three seconds to make a great first impression, so don't waste your time or your visitor's time with flash intros, and don't waste prime message space with "Welcome to XYZ."
The most important home page real estate should immediately answer the question of what you are offering in information or products that makes sticking around on your site worthwhile. And, of course, this content should
include priority keywords that you want to effectively include in your on-page SEO structuring.
3. Call to Action – How clear is your purpose. Visitors are mind readers. If you want them to do something, you need clear direction on what you want them to do. If you sell widgets, you need to have a button that says BUY THIS WIDGET button prominently on every page. If you want someone to sign up for your free seminar, you have to have your sign-up prominently displayed. If you want people to become your Fan on Facebook, you got it you have to add your Facebook hotlink and invitation on where people can see it.
These three website areas are not the end all be all to SEO, and they may seem trivial, but when packaged together they give a website more search advantage in terms of organic search results by the people out there looking for your products, services, and information.Once you improve your website's "fit factor," you can effectively implement SEO principles that will help you attract your target visitors.
